The winds of fortune blew talented youngster David Murphy in the direction of the Swans when, in reality, he should have been snared by Geelong.
Murphy was 17 and playing with New South Wales club Finley, deep in Geelong's country zone, when he severely injured a knee and had to have a complete knee reconstruction. But, instead of being shattered, Murphy dusted himself off and started all over again.
"I guess my youth was a major help," he suggested. "I never for one second thought I would never play football again and I was determined to pursue my dream of playing at the highest level"
